Experiencing Better Sleep- Speaker Series

Join Ann's Place for a program on promoting healthy sleep.

Topics explored will include the following:  

•What does healthy sleep look like over the lifespan?  

•Causes and symptoms of insomnia  

•The impact of cancer and cancer treatment on sleep  

•Behaviors to promote good sleep (“sleep hygiene”)  

•Pharmacological and alternative treatments for insomnia

Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Featuring Dr. Jose Mendez, MD

Pulmonologist with Nuvance Health and Danbury Hospital

Dr. Mendez is board certified in internal medicine, sleep medicine, critical care medicine and pulmonary disease.

CANCER & GENETICS: Exploring Connections, Consequences, and Responses

GUEST SPEAKER: Dani Balavram, MS, LCGC, Genetic Counselor at Danbury Hospital.

Cancer is a complex group of diseases with many possible causes. In her presentation, Danielle Balavram MS, LCGC, Genetic Counselor at Danbury Hospital, will explore how inherited genes may contribute to the development of certain types of cancers. She will also discuss screening tests for hereditary cancer syndromes, as well as screening and interventions for those who are at risk. Listen, learn and bring your questions.

Speaker Series: Difficult Conversations - in Spanish

Alguna vez has pensado que pasaría en caso de un accidente, enfermedad grave o enfermedad terminal, ¿Quién va a decidir por tu tratamiento? ¿Qué va a suceder?, ¿Cómo tu familia podría saber qué es lo que tu necesitas?

Cinco Deseos, es el primer testamento en vida (living will) que especifica tus necesidades personales, emocionales y espirituales, así como tus deseos sobre tu tratamiento médico y te permite escoger a la persona que deseas designar para que tome decisiones sobre el cuidado de tu salud cuando tú no lo puedas hacer.

Sabemos que ésta no es una plática sencilla, que usted necesita de guía y apoyo al tener esta difícil conversación por lo cual, una experta en el tema te brindara información, asesoramiento y el documento de Cinco deseos.

Además de que ofreceremos gratuitamente el documento de 5 ,deseos, también aprenderemos acerca de Hospicio y de cuidados paliativos.

Hablemos de temas difíciles, pero necesarios.

Winter Solstice: the Longest Night

Join us on the Winter Solstice, the day with the shortest amount of daylight, leading to the longest night. This night we will gather to recognize and make space for our sorrow and grief, whether it be from a loss of a loved one or the losses felt from a cancer diagnosis, during a time that is heavy with expectations of joy and good cheer. This night we gather in a gentle community so we can find introspection and peace from music, art, words and the compassion of others. We will gather to respect and acknowledge the darkness and find hope in the inevitable return of the light. We will be following the CDC guidelines for safety including wearing a mask.

Weather permitting, a small portion of this program will be held outside, so please dress warmly.

Women Together and Women Together Graduates presents the Documentary Screening of; Hidden Scars: The Emotional Impact of Mastectomy and Cancer Related Experiences

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Join directors and cancer survivors Kathleen “Casey” Clabby, and Noel Storm to view their documentary, “Hidden Scars: Emotional Impact of Mastectomy and Cancer-Related Experiences.” The film explores the emotional impact of breast surgery both before and after the procedure. There will be time for discussion and an opportunity to learn about resources for support.
