Poem By Marta R Maresco
an unfamiliar place
vaulted ceilings
thick white stucco walls and archways
I see rooms beyond rooms beyond rooms
arched thresholds open from one to the next
floors of smooth gleaming clay-tone tiles
there is a wood door, dark
against the farthest wall
its top is curved above
an ornate iron knob and hinges
I walk through vaulted spaces
reach the door
knowing I must go through
turn the knob
push the door wide open
stars and whirling galaxies
dazzle in black immensity
my “self” poised to leap
into unfathomable darkness and light
